We have organized this blog site as a space for friends, family, fellow scholars, creative writers, students, and admirers to share their memories or thoughts regarding our beloved Anna Livia. Anna died in her sleep on Monday night, August 6th, 2007, unexpectedly and to the great shock of the many loved ones she left behind. In addition to being an award-winning creative writer, a brilliant linguist, and an inspirational teacher, Anna had the biggest heart that ever was.
Anna is survived by her partner Patti Roberts, her two children Asher Julian Witkin and Emma Livia Witkin, her mother Dympna Brawn, her brothers Daniel Hugh Brawn and Michael Patrick Brawn, and her sister Isabel (Tizzie) Francis. We plan some day to make this blog available to Asher and Emma, when they are older and ready to rediscover their most wonderful Mama. We are also hoping that these collective posts will help all of us find a better way to make sense of the overwhelming sense of loss we all feel. Please don't think that you need to compose a post with great aesthetic or literary merit (though this would of course be welcomed). Most importantly, we welcome responses from the heart, no matter how unplanned or spontaneous. You can also post anonymously, if you prefer. Please join us.
A memorial for Anna Livia will take place at the Rockridge Library (between Berkeley and Oakland) on Saturday, October 6, 2007, from 1-5pm. The Rockridge Library is located at 5366 College Avenue. All are invited to attend.
